8th & 9th Grade Alternative Winter Break Trip

Picture
Registration is open for this year's City-Wide 8th and 9th Grade Alternative Winter Break in New Orleans. We have not traveled to New Orleans since 2018 and look forward to again offering this unique opportunity to Houston's Jewish 8th and 9th graders. We depart from Houston on Monday, December 27, and return Thursday, December 30.

Trip highlights include:
  • Eating beignets and other (kosher) Cajun treats
  • Touring Jewish sites like historic synagogues and the new Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience
  • Experiencing Mardi Gras World
  • Participating in service-learning with Green Light New Orleans, Cafe Reconcile, and more
  • Visiting Tulane University campus and Hillel

The Alternative Winter Break trip is open to all Jewish 8th and 9th graders from the Houston area; Kehillah High enrollment is not a requirement to attend so feel free to share these details across the community.

Please complete this online form by Thursday, December 2 to confirm participation.

The trip is free for Kehillah High students, as it is already included with the cost of tuition. The cost is $350 for community members. For Kehillah High students to secure their spot, there is a $200 fully-refundable deposit due with registration. Checks should be made out to Congregation Beth Israel attn: Kehillah High and can be mailed to 5600 North Braeswood Blvd, Houston, Texas 77096 or brought to classes on Wednesday evenings and given to Danielle or Stephanie. The deposits will be returned following your child's successful completion of the trip. This trip is highly subsidized and made possible through generous support from our community.

To maintain everyone's safety against COVID-19, we are requiring that all participants be fully vaccinated (two weeks out from their second vaccination). You will be asked to upload an image of your child's vaccination card to the registration form.

Please reach out to Danielle Alexander with any questions or concerns.
